Welcome to Hamilton, Alabama, via its four exits on the newly opened Interstate 22, in northwest Alabama. I-22 directly connects Birmingham, Alabama to Memphis, Tennessee, and is a major thoroughfare and access for millions of people traveling the Southeastern United States.
Hamilton has four exits -- Exit 7, Exit 11, Exit 14, and Exit 16 -- all which bring unique opportunities for business and economic growth and development, personal enjoyment and entertainment.
Exit 7 provides the first exit into the Hamilton area for southbound travelers via Bexar Avenue West, and easily accesses the downtown business district, including the Marion County Courthouse, the Hamilton City Hall, the Hamilton Area Chamber of Commerce office, as well as unique locally-owned businesses and restaurants and a very important staple in the Hamilton area – our churches. Exit 7 provides connection to U.S. Highway 278 East for those traveling to Cullman or Gadsden.
Exit 11 intersects with Alabama Highway 17, providing closest travel to the Hamilton schools, ball fields, and also into the downtown shopping and business district. Exit 11 provides the best access for southbound travelers to Marion County-Rankin Fite Airport, North Mississippi Medical Center, and Bevill State Community College. Exit 11 also provides a starting point for those wanting to travel the Marion County Arts Trail, which is headlined by Smithsonian potter Jerry Brown. The full trail can be viewed at www.MarionCountyArtsTrail.com.
Exit 14, known locally as the "Fulton Bridge exit," is home to the growing Fulton Bridge Industrial Park, and provides the best access to the southside hotels, restaurants, shopping district.
Exit 16, for the northbound travelers is the "first Hamilton exit," and intersects with U.S. Highway 43, which runs north and south from Florence to Tuscaloosa and beyond. For northbound travelers, Exit 16 provides a smooth, easy trip off of I-22 into the southside business district – hotels, restaurants, shopping, gas stations (as well as the hospital, airport, and college) – with no turns.
Exit 16 also provides easy access to the two Hamilton sites on the Alabama State Birding Trail, with sites at the Marion County Lake and the Hamilton Indian Mounds. Tourism sites and places to visit and things to do in the Hamilton area can be found at www.VisitHamiltonAL.com.
